Kharghar

Education:

PhD: University of Mumbai
Post Doctorate: (i) Argonne National Lab, USA (ii) Under Indo-German bilateral programme at the University of Leipzig, Germany

Experience:

• Radiation & Photochemical Scientist with a research career of about 40 years. Former Associate Director (D) Chemistry Group and Head, Radiation & Photochemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
• Member of Indian Society for Radiation and Photochemical Sciences, and Materials Research Society of India
• Studied free radical reactions at the surface of homogeneous and heterogeneous surfaces using fast radiation and laser spectrophotometric techniques.
• Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technique was exploited for the detection of fungicide, toxic heavy metals, hypoxiaand adulteration of milk and drugs.
• Using SERS genomic DNA (gDNA) of Brassicaceae plant species, namely, Brassica juncea and Arabidopsis thaliana were shown to be different probably due to the difference in their genome length and biochemical variability.
• Synthesis of pH sensitive gold nanoaprticles (NPs) using L-tryptophan showed potential applications in radio-sensitization.
• Use of un-laminated Gafchromic EBT3 film dosimeter for quantification of dose enhancement over silver NPs-embedded alginate film for NPs-aided radiotherapy is possible for low x-ray energy irradiation.
• Platinum metal deposited RGO-TiO2 composite show the high efficiency for the degradation and mineralization of pharmaceutical pollutant β-blocker propranolol. It was shown that by using copper NPs the reaction time under normal conditions for "Click reaction" can be reduced drastically for azide-alkyne cyclo addition which plays a key role in development of pharmaceuticals.
• Fabrication of a novel electro chemical immuno-probe for dual mode of sensing for recognition of SARS-CoV2 and secondary antibodies.
• Current interest is to explore the causation of congenital heart defects (CHDs) and the role of epigenetic, metabolomics, etc. in the mechanistic pathways of CHDs.
• Published 173 papers in reputed and high-impact international journals resulting in a total number of Scopus citations of more than 3900 with h-index 33.
• Received Young Investigator awards by International Congress of Radiation Research in 1991, Toronto, Canada and 1999, Dublin, Ireland. Also Fellow of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences.
• Guided/Co-guided 12 PhD/MSc students under Homi Bhabha National institute, Mumbai and Pune University.
